| There are others who claim to make money (and lose money) that is why they always go to the casino. Can one really make a living playing in casinos? Most of us play for fun. What about you, do you gamble for fun or as a means to earn? |

| you can only earn money as a professional if you're willing to bet almost everything to learn and perfect your craft.. it's the same dedication as with any profession, but there's not a lot who want/can do it! |

| Yeah, but arent most of the proffessionals already rich? Because really they have nothing to lose, and it would really be bad to have a "poor" or normal citizen to be a proffessional, because there are situations where you lose alot of money..and well, that would suck. |

Well, those are great observations and it really makes us think that we have to be rich before we become professionals, and that would mean a long long way ahead, don't you think, JT and Thumperfive? |

professionals have to start somewhere - look at Tiger Woods, do you think he just walked into the Masters?
you get a rep with smaller gambling groups to start with and then get investors to finance your trips to the casinos - like with any sport, you have to have people start to believe in you and you giving them a return in their investment. |

It seems logical to say that some people make a living off of gambling. There was a big story a while ago about some guy (I can't remember his name) who could count cards, do all the stuff to win almost every time. As well, he was training others on how to do it as well. Somehow he got busted, and now he makes money by writing books and doing documentaries on his success.
I am trying to make a living on gambling, but my main casino is Wall St. |

| it's not as easy as people think - professionals don't just walk in and start winning, they spend a lot of time perfecting their craft as well as planning how they'll play certain hands. It's the romantic image that makes everyone think they can do it. |

| I can never understand how professional's can actually win overall. Surely in the end they will come out the loser. The games at casinos are designed so that the house has a huge advantage over a player. This is why they will always win overall. |

| When I gamble i'm gambling for fun, however I do know a couple of people that actual gamble for a living. It isn't a very stable career path, however I've been to a casino with these friends of mine and they win more frequently than other people. |

I suppose that they win more frequently than other players is because they will know the game a lot better than other players. If they are playing things like BlackJack they will know when they should and shouldn't take a card etc. |

| This is definitely the reason. It's the same with anything that you do repeatedly. Over time you get better and better at it. In that time you get the know the little knacks and develope game tactics. |

Indeed, though ultimately any casino game involves chance and luck, which is why I wouldn't be keen on riding my latest utility or food bill on the turn of a card.
As much as I'd like the thrill of living on the edge and having the possibility to go from nothing to sorted for the next 3 months in one night, what happens when things don't go according to plan? |

Well you can get much better at anything over time but when it costs you money to learn as it does with gambling I’m not sure it’s for the vast majority.
I’m always sceptical of the so called professional players on the poker game circuits I can see it but not using casinos the odds are stacked against you so the longer you play the more likely you are to lose.
Having said that when you start to read on the laws of probability as I have once or twice it just ends up making your head hurt i.e. you can toss a coin 9 times and if it landed on heads all 9 times most people would think tails is a good bet for the next toss. But the odds on a tail coming up next time are still 50-50. |

Usually people who want to make a living gambling and betting either play private poker games and tournaments, or invest. Gambling at a casino has a poor win to lose ratio for professional income.
There are of course people who try to cheat the casinos professionally. |
